Gary Fenske

Gary Fenske is internationally acknowledged as the founder of the art movement known as the Invisible Arts. For the past 40 years, his sole quest has been the advancement of the fine art of fluorescing luminism. Experimenting with different techniques and artistic ideas, his revolutionary accomplishments have given him international recognition. His distinctive paintings and efforts brought luminous art into the mainstream. Luminous art is painting with light. The art community has used the term luminism loosely. Luminous is defined as "radiating light, shining or bright". Gary Fenske's Invisible Art has achieved the purest form of luminism. Invisible by day, but at night, with paints he invented, his works fluoresce. Giving off their own light, they radiate with every imaginable color when displayed under a UV light. Executed with artistic excellence, his work engulfs the viewer with an uncanny sense of depth that cannot be achieved through any other media. Fenske's international appeal started in the 1980's when he introduced the Invisible Arts through Center Art Galleries Hawaii. In the 1990's, a gallery dedicated to "Night Visions", a trademark for his luminous art, opened in Nagoya, Japan. Soon after, a second opened in Tokyo’s Ginza district. His art has traveled throughout the world, with shows in Monaco, China, Japan and the United States. He is noted as the first American artist to exhibit his work at the Nagoya Shogun Castle. His luminous art has graced walls of the estate of a prince in Saudi Arabia and shown in the Parliament Building for the Speaker of the House in Victoria, Canada. They are among the treasured pieces collected by the former King of Pop, Michael Jackson and Bill Clinton, the President of the United States. Painting with light has an eerie lifelike glow, only luminous art achieves this effect. His art is found in numerous prestigious private and public collections around the world. Fenske's contributions to art history, his paintings and life, how he saved and advanced luminous art, along with some of his scientific theories, are documented in the beautifully illustrated book, "The Secret World of Invisible Art".
